Business laptop for office work

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 512GB M.2 SATA SSD. It runs Windows 10 Home and includes a 720p webcam for video calls. This configuration suits professionals handling documents, email and web-based applications.

Sustained performance with integrated graphics

The Intel HD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory and drives the 1366 x 768 LED display for everyday visual tasks. The dual-core CPU with 3 MB L3 cache manages typical office workloads without active cooling noise becoming intrusive during extended sessions. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11 wireless provide stable network connectivity for cloud services and remote meetings.

Silver chassis with legacy and modern ports

The silver non-touch chassis offers VGA, full-size DisplayPort, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.1 Type-C port and an RJ-45 jack for wired networks. A SIM card reader supports mobile broadband where available. Grade B condition means visible cosmetic blemishes such as scratches are present on the exterior surfaces.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Core i5-7300U get when the 840 G4 runs all day?

The dual-core 2.6 GHz chip shares system memory with Intel HD Graphics 620 and sits in a 14.0" chassis cooled by a single fan; typical office loads keep it quiet and warm rather than hot.

What must I already own to use the USB 3.1 Type-C and DisplayPort on this laptop?

You need a USB-C cable or adapter for data and charging, plus a DisplayPort cable or dock to drive an external monitor at 1366 x 768 or higher.

Will my older VGA projector and Gigabit Ethernet cable work with the 840 G4?

Yes, the laptop includes a full-size VGA port and a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 jack, so legacy projectors and wired networks connect directly.
