Business laptop for everyday productivity

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14-inch laptop built for office work and remote tasks. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory. A 512GB M.2 SATA SSD provides fast boot times and ample space for documents and applications.

Step up from slower storage and less memory

Replacing a mechanical hard drive with the included 512GB SSD cuts load times for large files and multitasking. The 8GB DDR4 upgrade over 4GB configurations keeps multiple browser tabs and business apps responsive. The jump is worth it when daily workflows involve spreadsheets, video calls and local file access.

Steady output during long work sessions

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 shares system memory and handles 1366 x 768 output without a discrete GPU. Under sustained load the dual-core chip maintains 2.6GHz clock speeds while the fan manages heat inside the silver chassis. Battery life supports a typical workday away from a desk.

Questions about this item

Does the 14.0" EliteBook 840 G4 need a specific dock or port replicator to add monitors?

The laptop provides a full-size DisplayPort and a VGA port for external displays; no proprietary dock is required, but a USB-C dock can be used for single-cable connectivity if desired.

What is the first step when installing the 512GB M.2 SATA SSD into the 840 G4?

Remove the bottom cover screws, disconnect the battery cable, then insert the M.2 SATA drive into the keyed slot at a 30-degree angle before securing it with the retention screw.

Which user-replaceable parts on the 840 G4 will likely need attention after extended use?

The internal battery and the M.2 SATA SSD are both accessible after removing the base cover; the battery degrades over charge cycles and the SSD can be swapped for more capacity.
