HP EliteBook 840 G5 14" FHD i5-8350U

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch business laptop with a 1920 x 1080 non-touch display. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with Intel UHD Graphics 620. The system includes 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 256GB PCIe M.2 SSD. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed.

Upgrade from dual-core or 8GB configurations

Moving from a dual-core processor to this quad-core i5-8350U with 1.7 GHz base and 3.6 GHz boost improves multi-threaded responsiveness. The jump to 16GB DDR4 memory eliminates bottlenecks when running several office applications simultaneously. The 256GB NVME SSD replaces slower mechanical drives for faster boot and load times.

Suits mobile professionals needing vPro

This configuration fits users who require Intel vPro remote management, HP Sure Start BIOS protection and a silver aluminium chassis with USB 3.0 and USB Type-C DisplayPort connectivity. Buyers who want more storage than 256GB, a larger 15.6 inch screen, a smaller 13.3 inch form factor, a touchscreen display or discrete graphics should look at other models.

Questions about this item

Does the 14" EliteBook 840 G5 need a specific dock connector for dual monitors?

The USB Type-C ports carry DisplayPort signals so a USB-C dock or adapter drives external screens without a proprietary connector.

What BIOS step is often missed when installing the Windows 11 Pro image on this i5-8350U unit?

Enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot in the UEFI menu before starting the Windows 11 install or the setup will block progress.

Which memory slots are occupied in the 16 GB DDR4 configuration and what is the ceiling?

Two 8 GB modules fill both SODIMM slots; the board supports up to 32 GB total if you replace them with larger sticks.
