Business ultraportable for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built for professionals who need reliable performance on the move. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with four cores and eight threads. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for fast storage. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks.

Quad-core U-series processor with 15 W TDP

The Intel Core i7-8650U operates at a 1.90 GHz base frequency with a 15 W thermal design power. This power envelope defines the sustained performance available in a thin chassis. Buyers who need higher multi-core throughput for rendering or compilation should consider that this U-series chip prioritises efficiency over raw speed. The 6 MB L3 cache supports responsive multitasking within that constraint.

Passive-friendly cooling and modest power draw

The 15 W processor enables quiet operation during typical office workloads such as document editing, video calls and web browsing. Fan noise remains low under light use and only increases during sustained heavy tasks. The 14.0-inch FHD LED display and efficient silicon keep overall power consumption modest. Users running continuous high-load workflows should expect warmer surface temperatures and more active cooling.

Questions about this item

How does the i7-8650U's 1.9 GHz base clock translate to everyday workloads?

The quad-core processor runs at 1.9 GHz with four cores and eight threads, so typical office applications, web browsing and multitasking stay responsive while the 15 W power envelope keeps heat and fan noise low.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port actually allow me to connect?

The single USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port supports data, video and charging, letting you drive an external display, attach a dock or add high-speed storage through one cable.

Will the 14.0" chassis accept a second internal drive?

The laptop uses a single M.2 slot for the 1 TB NVMe PCIe SSD; there is no additional drive bay or second M.2 connector for internal expansion.
