Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built for professionals who need reliable performance while travelling. It ships with Windows 10 Home and includes a charger and battery. The silver chassis houses a quad-core Intel Core i5-8350U processor running at 1.7 GHz with 6 MB L3 cache.

Quad-core processor with 32 GB DDR4

The deciding specification is the Intel Core i5-8350U paired with 32 GB of DDR4 memory. This combination delivers four cores and eight threads for multitasking across office applications, video calls and browser workloads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory for display output.

1 TB NVMe storage and 1080p display

A 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides fast boot times and ample space for large project files and local databases. The 1920 x 1080 FHD LED panel offers clear visuals for documents and web content. Demanding 3D rendering, modern gaming or heavy video editing will exceed the integrated graphics capability.

Questions about this item

How does the 1.7 GHz base clock on the i5-8350U feel when the EliteBook 840 G5 is running typical office workloads?

The quad-core chip with eight threads and 6 MB L3 cache keeps everyday multitasking smooth, while Turbo Boost raises speeds well above the base figure for short bursts.

What does the single Thunderbolt 3 port actually let me connect at full speed?

It delivers up to 40 Gbit/s for external GPUs, dual 4K displays or fast NVMe enclosures, and also carries USB 3.1 Gen 1 and DisplayPort signals.

Will the 1 TB NVMe M.2 drive fit in the 14 inch chassis without an adapter?

Yes, the M.2 2280 slot is built into the motherboard, so the supplied PCIe SSD installs directly with no caddy or bracket required.
