Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 combines a 14.0 inch FHD display with an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor, 32GB DDR4 memory and a 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed and a Microsoft Windows 11 Pro upgrade path is available. Thunderbolt 3 and Gigabit Ethernet support docking and wired network needs.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 1.70 GHz Kaby Lake R chip with 6 MB L3 cache shares system memory with Intel UHD Graphics 620 for integrated visual tasks. Under continuous load the ultra-low-voltage design throttles clock speeds to manage thermals within the slim chassis. Shared graphics memory reduces bandwidth available for compute-heavy applications during extended sessions.

Installation notes and common issues

The unit ships with charger and battery; no optical drive is present so OS reinstalls require a USB boot device. Thunderbolt 3 uses a USB-C connector that also carries DisplayPort and power delivery — verify cable certification for full 40 Gbps throughput. Grade B cosmetic blemishes include scratches, shiny keys or shiny palm-rest areas that do not affect function.
