EliteBook 840 G5 business laptop

This 14.0 inch EliteBook 840 G5 is built for professionals who need a reliable daily driver. It runs Windows 10 Home on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with 32GB DDR4 memory. The 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides fast boot and application load times. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles standard office visuals.

Upgrade from older ultraportables

The jump from a dual-core machine to this 8th generation quad-core part is worth it when multitasking across browser tabs, spreadsheets and video calls. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C adds a single-cable dock option that earlier models lack. The 1920 x 1080 FHD panel replaces lower-resolution screens common on 14 inch predecessors. Buyers who need discrete graphics or more than 32GB memory should look elsewhere.

32GB DDR4 and 512GB NVMe headroom

The 32GB DDR4 configuration comfortably runs virtual machines, large datasets and heavy browser workloads without paging. The 512GB NVMe drive holds the operating system, applications and a substantial project library with room to spare. Storage headroom runs out when local media libraries or multiple VM images exceed the half-terabyte capacity. Memory headroom ends if workloads demand more than the soldered 32GB limit.

Questions about this item

What are the physical dimensions and mounting requirements for the 14.0" display and chassis?

The laptop has a 14.0" screen with a 1920 x 1080 FHD resolution and LED backlight. It is a standard clamshell notebook designed for desk or lap use; no special mounting hardware or brackets are required.

How is the 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD installed, and what step do people often miss?

The drive fits into the internal M.2 slot and is secured with a single screw. The step often missed is ensuring the retaining screw is fully tightened so the drive stays seated during thermal cycling.

What maintenance or replacement will the internal battery and memory need later?

The 32GB DDR4 memory is soldered and not user-replaceable. The internal battery is replaceable but requires removing the bottom cover; plan for a battery swap after several years of charge cycles.
