HP EliteBook 840 G5 14 business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor at 1.7 GHz with 6 MB L3 cache. It includes 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD LED display is non-touch. It runs Windows 10 Pro and offers USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB Type C Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 connectivity. A webcam is integrated.

Suits mobile professionals needing a managed

This laptop suits professionals who need a managed Windows 10 Pro device with Thunderbolt 3 docking and a bright 1080p screen for office applications. Buyers who want more storage or memory than the soldered 8 GB and single 256 GB drive provide should look elsewhere. It is not for users who require a dedicated graphics processor or a touchscreen display.

Quad-core i5-8350U with Thunderbolt 3

The deciding specification is the Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor combined with a single USB Type C Thunderbolt 3 port. This CPU provides four cores and eight threads at 1.7 GHz for typical business workloads. The Thunderbolt 3 connection supports high-speed docks and external displays. If your workflow needs more cores or discrete graphics, this configuration will not meet those requirements.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD, and which screw size do people often lose?

The drive slots into the M.2 connector at a slight angle, then fastens with a single small Phillips screw — that screw is the part most often dropped during installation.

What maintenance will the 8 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The memory is soldered to the board, so no module replacement is possible; only keep the vents clear of dust to avoid thermal throttling.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Intel UHD Graphics 620?

Shared system memory and thermal headroom cap the GPU first, causing clock speeds to drop before the CPU hits its own ceiling.
