Business-grade 14-inch laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.70 GHz with 6 MB L3 cache. It ships with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 solid-state drive. The 1920 x 1080 FHD LED-backlit display is non-touch and driven by integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 using shared system memory. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed with a Windows 11 Pro upgrade path available.

Thunderbolt 3 port and Gigabit Ethernet

A single USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port provides high-speed data and video output alongside two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and an HDMI connector. Wired networking is handled by a Gigabit RJ-45 jack rated at 10/100/1000 Mbps. Wireless connectivity uses the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 adapter. The unit includes a 720p webcam, charger and battery. Grade B condition means visible cosmetic blemishes such as scratches or shiny key surfaces are present.

Buyers accepting cosmetic wear for value

This configuration suits professionals who need a durable 14-inch chassis, Thunderbolt 3 expandability and fast NVMe storage at a lower cost than pristine stock. Buyers who require a flawless exterior, a touchscreen panel, discrete graphics or more than 8 GB of memory should look at other options. The integrated graphics and fixed memory limit heavy creative workloads and virtualisation scenarios.

Questions about this item

Will the 512GB NVMe SSD need replacement for capacity or wear?

The 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD is a solid-state drive with no moving parts; under typical workloads it lasts years, and the laptop’s M.2 slot accepts a larger NVMe module if you need more space.

What limits sustained performance on the i5-8350U?

The quad-core i5-8350U runs at 1.7 GHz base clock and shares thermal headroom with the Intel UHD 620 graphics, so prolonged heavy loads will hit the processor’s power and temperature ceiling first.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G5 get during all-day use?

Business-class cooling keeps the 14.0" chassis quiet for office tasks; the fan spins up under sustained CPU or GPU load, and the bottom surface warms noticeably but stays within normal operating range.
