Business laptop with Thunderbolt 3

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with four cores and 6 MB L3 cache. It comes with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD display uses LED backlighting and is non-touch. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Suited for mobile professionals needing legacy ports

This configuration suits professionals who need a compact laptop with Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports for docking and peripherals. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a discrete GPU, or a larger display should look at something else. The Grade B condition means cosmetic blemishes such as scratches or shiny keys are present.

Quad-core U-series CPU with 15 W TDP

The Intel Core i7-8650U runs at 1.90 GHz with a 15 W thermal design. This low-power quad-core chip decides whether the laptop fits your workload; sustained heavy compute will throttle compared with higher-wattage processors. If your tasks need sustained multi-core performance or discrete graphics, this CPU is the limiting factor.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-8650U is running at its 1.9 GHz base speed after I set up the EliteBook 840 G5?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, and watch the CPU clock settle at 1.9 GHz while the system is idle; the quad-core, eight-thread processor should show four cores and eight logical processors.

What ships with the laptop and what must I source separately?

The box contains the EliteBook 840 G5, its charger and the installed battery; no dock, external monitor or additional storage is included.

Should I choose the 16 GB DDR4 / 256 GB NVMe configuration or look for a different capacity?

This unit is already specified with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD; if you need more RAM or storage you would have to select a different SKU.
