Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 pairs an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed. The 14.0 inch non-touch display delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution with LED backlighting. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory for everyday visual tasks.

Sustained workload behaviour

The quad-core processor runs at 1.9 GHz with a 15 W thermal design and 8 MB cache. Under continuous load the chip maintains clocks within its power envelope rather than spiking briefly. Shared graphics memory means the 8 GB system RAM serves both compute and display duties, so heavy multitasking can reduce available bandwidth for the GPU.

Build quality and daily connectivity

A silver chassis houses two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI and Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet. Wireless connectivity comes from the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 module. A 1080p webcam sits above the screen. The laptop ships with charger and battery included.
