Ready for Office Work

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a 14-inch laptop built for professionals, students and small-business users who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro machine for everyday productivity. It combines an Intel Core i5-8250U processor with 8 GB of DDR4 memory, a 256 GB NVMe SSD and a 1 TB hard drive for ample storage. The 1920 x 1080 anti-glare display and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handle documents, web apps and video calls without fuss.

Simple Memory Upgrades

Two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots sit under a single bottom cover, so adding or replacing modules takes only a screwdriver and a few minutes. The system supports up to 32 GB total, but the factory-installed 8 GB occupies one slot, leaving the second free for an easy expansion. The M.2 NVMe SSD and 2.5-inch hard drive are also accessible, though care is needed with the ribbon cables when removing the cover.

Check Your Peripherals

Verify that your external monitors can accept HDMI 1.4b or USB-C with Thunderbolt signalling for video output. The laptop provides one HDMI port, one Thunderbolt 3 port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, RJ-45 Ethernet and a combo audio jack. Wi-Fi uses 802.11ac 2x2 with Bluetooth 4.2, so ensure your network infrastructure matches those standards. The 720p webcam and backlit keyboard are built in, requiring no extra accessories.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the Intel UHD 620 graphics are driving the 14″ 1920×1080 panel at 60 Hz after first boot?

Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display and verify the refresh rate shows 60 Hz for the built-in 1920×1080 screen.

Which accessories are included in the box and what must I purchase separately?

The box contains the laptop, an AC power adapter, and a lithium-ion battery; no manual, docking station, or external mouse are supplied.

Should I choose the i5-8250U with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD or the i5-8350U variant listed in the description?

The i5-8250U model matches the advertised quad-core 1.60 GHz base speed and 3.40 GHz boost, while the i5-8350U entry appears to be a data inconsistency.
