Business ultraportable with vPro security

The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for professionals who need managed security and reliable daily performance. Its Intel Core i7-8665U quad-core processor runs at 1.9 GHz with 8 MB cache and a 15 W thermal design. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB SSD provide responsive multitasking and fast boot times. Windows 10 Pro and Intel vPro support enable fleet management out of the box.

Upgrade from dual-core or 8 GB machines

Users moving from older dual-core ultrabooks or systems limited to 8 GB RAM will notice smoother concurrent workloads and quicker application switching. The jump is worth it when you regularly run virtual machines, heavy spreadsheets or multiple browser tabs alongside video calls. Buyers who need more local storage than 128 GB or a dedicated graphics engine should look elsewhere.

Steady output within a 15 W envelope

Under sustained load the 15 W chip maintains consistent frequencies without aggressive throttling, so compile jobs and long video conferences remain stable. Shared UHD graphics memory means graphics tasks draw from the same 16 GB pool, which is adequate for external 1080p displays via HDMI or Thunderbolt 3. The fan profile stays quiet during typical office work and ramps only during prolonged heavy compute.

Questions about this item

What are the exact dimensions and mounting points for the 128 GB solid-state drive inside this 14.0-inch EliteBook?

The 128 GB SSD uses the standard M.2 2280 form factor and is secured by a single screw on the motherboard; no caddy or adapter is required.

Which screw must be removed first when opening the base cover to reach the memory slots?

Loosen the five Torx T5 screws on the bottom case, then pry from the front edge near the battery connector to avoid snapping the hidden clips.

How often should the cooling fan and heatsink be cleaned on a unit with the 15 W i7-8665U processor?

Blow out dust from the fan intake and exhaust vents every six to twelve months; replace the thermal paste on the CPU die if temperatures exceed 90 °C under load.
