Business ultraportable for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a 14-inch laptop built for daily office work and travel. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an Intel Core i7-8665U processor with four cores and eight threads. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a one-terabyte NVMe PCIe M.2 solid-state drive provide responsive multitasking and ample local storage.

Thunderbolt 3 limits external bandwidth to 40 Gbps

A single USB-C port carries Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort and USB 3.1 Gen 1 signals together. The shared 40 Gbps ceiling means a high-resolution external display and fast storage cannot both run at their individual maximums simultaneously. Two additional USB-A ports handle legacy peripherals without consuming that Thunderbolt budget.

Quad-core 15 W CPU defines sustained performance

The i7-8665U operates at a 15-watt thermal design power, so clock speeds drop under prolonged load to stay within its cooling envelope. Burst speeds reach 1.9 GHz, yet heavy renders or compiles will throttle below that figure. Buyers who need consistent all-core turbo for hours should consider a higher-wattage workstation instead.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 16 GB DDR4 and 1 TB NVMe configuration or look for a different capacity?

The 16 GB DDR4 memory and 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD are the only configuration offered for this EliteBook 840 G6, so there is no alternative capacity to choose.

What does the 1.9 GHz base clock of the i7-8665U mean for everyday workloads?

The quad-core i7-8665U runs at 1.9 GHz with 8 MB cache and a 15 W power envelope, giving responsive performance for office apps, web browsing and light multitasking on Windows 11 Pro.

What can the single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port actually drive?

The Thunderbolt 3 port supports video output, data transfer and docking, so you can connect Thunderbolt docks, external displays or projectors alongside the HDMI port.
