Mobile workstation with Thunderbolt 3

The HP EliteBook 840 G6 is a 14-inch business notebook powered by a quad-core Intel Core i7-8665U processor running at 1.90 GHz. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB solid-state drive. The 1920 x 1080 FHD display uses LED backlighting and does not support touch input. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed for immediate deployment.

Connectivity for docks and displays

A single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port handles data, video and charging through compatible docks or monitors. One HDMI port adds a second external display without adapters. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports connect legacy peripherals directly. Gigabit Ethernet and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 provide wired and wireless networking. The integrated webcam supports conferencing out of the box.

Sustained performance in a 15 W envelope

The 15 W processor maintains clock speeds during extended workloads thanks to the EliteBook thermal design. Shared system memory feeds the Intel UHD Graphics for consistent frame rates in productivity apps. The 128 GB SSD keeps the operating system and active files responsive without mechanical latency. Fan noise remains controlled during long compile or rendering sessions.

Questions about this item

At what point does the Intel Core i7-8665U hit its 15 W power limit during sustained workloads?

The processor is rated at 15 W, so under continuous heavy load it will throttle to stay within that envelope, limiting peak performance after the initial burst.

How much fan noise and surface heat should I expect when the EliteBook 840 G6 runs at full load for hours?

With a 15 W quad-core chip and shared graphics memory, the cooling system will spin up noticeably and the keyboard deck grows warm during extended maximum utilisation.

Which peripherals and accounts are required before this Windows 10 Pro laptop can be used?

Only the included charger is essential; a Microsoft or local account completes Windows setup, while the Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI, USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and Gigabit Ethernet are ready for any docks, displays or networks you already own.
