14-inch FHD IPS laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G8 delivers a 14.0-inch anti-glare IPS panel at 1920 x 1080 resolution with 250 nits brightness and 72% NTSC colour coverage. A quad-core Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor runs at 3.0 GHz base frequency, reaching 4.8 GHz via Turbo Boost with 12 MB L3 cache. Integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics use shared system memory across 16 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM in a single-channel configuration.

Fanless idle and quiet office thermals

In typical productivity workloads the cooling system remains nearly silent while the 256 GB PCIe NVMe TLC SSD and Wi-Fi 6 AX201 2x2 plus Bluetooth 5 combo operate without spinning fans audibly. The 250-nit display and efficient 11th Gen silicon keep surface temperatures comfortable during extended document editing or video calls. Windows 11 Pro manages power states to limit draw during light multitasking.

Sustained Turbo Boost with warm chassis

Under continuous multi-core load the i7-1185G7 maintains elevated clocks until thermal limits engage, then throttles gradually while the keyboard deck grows noticeably warm. Integrated Iris Xe graphics share the same thermal budget, so prolonged rendering or heavy browser sessions reduce sustained performance compared to short bursts. The single 16 GB memory module caps bandwidth for graphics-intensive tasks.

Questions about this item

How do I add a second DDR4-3200 SODIMM to the single 16 GB stick that ships with this EliteBook 840 G8?

Open the bottom cover, locate the empty SODIMM slot beside the factory 16 GB module, insert the new stick at the correct angle and press down until the retention clips lock.

Which components in this EliteBook 840 G8 are most likely to need replacement after several years of daily use?

The 256 GB PCIe NVMe TLC SSD and the internal battery are the parts that typically wear out first; the soldered CPU, GPU and 16 GB RAM are not user-replaceable.

What thermal limit appears first when the Core i7-1185G7 runs sustained workloads on this 14" chassis?

The processor will hit its 4.8 GHz turbo ceiling briefly, then settle at lower clocks once the 250-nit cooling assembly reaches its thermal capacity.
