EliteBook 840 G8 14" Touch i7 16GB 512GB SSD

This HP EliteBook 840 G8 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen laptop running Windows 11 Pro. It suits professionals who need a portable device with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 display and 16GB of memory for everyday office applications. The integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics handle standard business workloads and video playback without a discrete GPU.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 with a minimum 2.80GHz base speed maintains performance for typical productivity tasks such as document editing, web browsing and video conferencing. The integrated graphics share system memory, so extended heavy graphical work may reduce available RAM for other applications. Thermal management in the slim chassis balances noise and temperature during long sessions.

Practical limits of the platform

The 512GB SSD provides fast storage for the operating system and files, though actual usable capacity may range between 480GB and 512GB. Two memory slots are present with 16GB currently installed, allowing a future upgrade if required. Connectivity includes two USB ports and Bluetooth for peripherals, while the lack of an optical drive and a backlit keyboard are fixed constraints of this configuration.

Questions about this item

How loud does the fan get when the Intel Core i7 11th Gen processor runs at 2.80GHz all day?

The fan speed increases under sustained load to keep the CPU near its 2.80GHz base clock, producing noticeable but not disruptive airflow noise in a typical office.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the two USB ports on this EliteBook 840 G8?

Any standard USB-A devices — mice, keyboards, flash drives or external drives — plug directly into the two ports without extra adapters.

Will the 14.0 inch 1920 x 1080 touchscreen work as a second display for my older laptop?

The built-in screen is driven only by the internal Intel Iris Xe Graphics; it cannot accept a video signal from another computer.
