HP EliteBook 840 G8 Laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G8 is a 14.0 inch business laptop running Windows 11 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i5 11th Gen processor with 4 cores and a 4.4 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 64GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. The 1920 x 1080 Full HD display is non-touch and features an integrated webcam. Integrated graphics handle visual output.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This configuration suits professionals who need substantial memory for multitasking and virtual machines on a portable 14 inch chassis. Buyers who want more storage capacity for large local files or a dedicated graphics processor for intensive rendering should look elsewhere. The non-touch screen also means users requiring pen or finger input will need a different model.

Installation ease and common issues

As a complete laptop, the unit requires no internal hardware installation; it is ready to use after the standard Windows 11 Pro setup process. Driver updates for the integrated graphics and 802.11ac wireless adapter typically install automatically. Common issues include limited storage headroom on the 256GB drive and potential thermal throttling under sustained heavy CPU loads due to the integrated graphics sharing system memory.

Questions about this item

Does the 256GB SSD leave a free slot for a second drive, or must I replace it to add capacity?

The specification lists only one 256GB SSD with no HDD, so adding storage means replacing the existing drive.

Will my existing 802.11ac router deliver the same wireless speed as the laptop's built-in WLAN?

Yes, the laptop uses 802.11ac Wireless LAN, matching your router's standard for equivalent throughput.

How can I confirm the i5-1145G7 is hitting its 4.4GHz turbo frequency under load?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab while running a demanding task and watch the CPU clock speed rise toward 4.4GHz.
