HP EliteBook 850 G2 business laptop

The HP EliteBook 850 G2 is a 15.6-inch laptop built for office work and travel. It runs on an Intel Core i5-5200U processor at 2.20 GHz with a turbo frequency of 2.70 GHz. The system includes 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. No operating system is installed.

Suited for users who need a ready screen and storage

This unit suits professionals who want a full HD 1920 x 1080 non-touch display and ample solid-state storage out of the box. The 16GB memory ceiling is fixed at the factory maximum, so buyers who need more RAM should look elsewhere. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles general productivity but not modern 3D workloads.

1TB 2.5-inch SATA SSD defines upgrade path

The single specification that decides fit is the 1TB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. It provides large capacity on a SATA interface, so anyone requiring a different drive form factor or a faster protocol must choose another device. The laptop ships without an operating system, so the buyer must supply one.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 16 GB DDR3 configuration or look for a higher capacity?

The system ships with 16 GB DDR3 across two slots and the platform maximum is 16 GB, so no larger memory upgrade is possible.

What does the 2.20 GHz base and 2.70 GHz turbo mean for everyday workloads?

The dual-core i5-5200U runs at 2.20 GHz normally and can boost to 2.70 GHz for short bursts, giving responsive office and web performance within its thermal envelope.

How does the 2.5" SATA interface affect the 1 TB SSD speed?

The 1 TB SSD uses a 2.5" SATA connection, so its throughput is bounded by the SATA bus rather than faster alternatives.
