HP EliteBook 850 G2 laptop

This 15.6 inch FHD laptop uses an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor running at 2.30 GHz with a 2.90 GHz turbo frequency. It comes with 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a new 2 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. The system ships without an operating system so the buyer must supply their own.

Suitable for office work and legacy software

The 1920 x 1080 non-touch display and Intel HD Graphics 5500 handle everyday productivity and older applications. Buyers who need a pre-installed Windows licence or a touchscreen should look elsewhere. The 16 GB memory ceiling also limits users who require more RAM for heavy multitasking.

Memory capped at 16 GB DDR3

Two slots are fitted and the maximum supported capacity is 16 GB so no further upgrades are possible. This fixed limit decides whether the laptop can meet a specific workload before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much RAM can I add to the two DDR3 slots?

Both slots are already populated to reach the 16 GB maximum supported by this EliteBook 850 G2, so no further memory can be added.

What is required to install an operating system on the 2 TB NVMe drive?

Create a bootable USB installer for Windows or Linux, boot from it, and select the 2 TB NVMe SSD as the target; the drive is empty and unformatted.

Which component will need replacement first during long-term ownership?

The internal lithium-ion battery will lose capacity over time; when runtime becomes unacceptable, order a genuine HP replacement and swap it after removing the bottom cover.
