Business laptop with 15.6" FHD display

The HP EliteBook 850 G2 is a 15.6-inch laptop built around a dual-core Intel Core i5-5300U processor running at 2.30 GHz with a 2.90 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. The non-touch screen delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution, driven by integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500. No operating system is installed.

Memory upgrade path and storage layout

Two memory slots are provided, supporting up to 16 GB total capacity, so the existing 8GB can be expanded. The 1TB SSD occupies the 2.5-inch SATA bay, leaving no mechanical hard-drive slot free. Intel HD Graphics 5500 uses system memory, so adding RAM also benefits graphics performance. Bluetooth and a webcam are integrated for peripheral and video-call connectivity.

Suits OS-flexible buyers.

This unit suits buyers who want a silver business chassis with a full-HD screen and the freedom to install their preferred operating system. It is not for users who need a discrete graphics processor for rendering or gaming, nor for anyone requiring a pre-loaded Windows licence. The 365-day parts-and-labour warranty covers the hardware as supplied.

Questions about this item

Will the Intel Core i5-5300U throttle under sustained heavy workloads?

The processor has a base frequency of 2.30 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz; thermal management will determine how long the turbo can be maintained during continuous load.

How loud or hot does the EliteBook 850 G2 get when running all day?

The dual-core Intel Core i5-5300U and Intel HD Graphics 5500 are low-power components, so fan noise and surface temperatures stay modest during typical office use.

Do I need to buy an operating system licence before I can use this laptop?

The unit ships with no operating system installed, so a Windows licence or alternative OS must be supplied and installed by the buyer.
