Business laptop without an operating system

The HP EliteBook 850 G3 is a 15.6-inch business laptop powered by a dual-core Intel Core i5-6300U processor running at 2.40 GHz with a 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a new 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe solid-state drive. The non-touch HD display offers a 1366 x 768 resolution driven by Intel HD Graphics 520. No operating system is installed, so the buyer must provide and install their own.

Storage and memory headroom

The 1TB NVMe drive replaces any mechanical hard drive and provides fast boot and application load times straight out of the box. Two memory slots are populated with 8GB total, and the platform supports up to 32 GB of DDR4, allowing a straightforward upgrade path for heavier multitasking workloads.

Suits buyers who can supply their own OS

This unit suits IT departments or enthusiasts who want a silver business chassis with modern NVMe storage and the flexibility to install a preferred Windows or Linux build. Buyers who need a higher-resolution panel, a pre-loaded operating system, a dedicated graphics processor, or a touchscreen should consider other models.

Questions about this item

Can the 8 GB DDR4 memory be expanded later, and what is the maximum the EliteBook 850 G3 supports?

The laptop has two memory slots and supports up to 32 GB of DDR4, so you can add or replace modules to reach that limit.

Under sustained load, will the Core i5-6300U hit its turbo ceiling or thermal limit first?

The dual-core processor can reach 3.00 GHz turbo, but prolonged heavy work will typically hit the thermal ceiling before the frequency limit.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 850 G3 get when running all day on the Intel HD Graphics 520?

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 keeps power draw modest, so fan noise stays low and chassis temperatures remain comfortable during extended use.
