Compact business desktop with included monitor

The HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700 hexa-core processor with 8 GB DDR4 memory and dual solid-state storage: a 128 GB M.2 drive plus a 1 TB SSD. A 24-inch IPS display at 1920 x 1080 resolution, USB keyboard and mouse, and Windows 10 Pro complete the ready-to-work package.

65 W processor in a small-form-factor chassis

The i7-8700 runs at a 3.20 GHz base clock and can reach 4.60 GHz with Turbo Boost while staying within a 65 W thermal design power. The SFF case uses internal ducting to move air across the CPU and two SSDs, keeping fan noise low during typical office workloads such as document editing, video calls and web browsing.

Tool-free access and versatile port layout

The chassis opens without tools for memory upgrades up to 32 GB DDR4 or additional 2.5-inch drives. Front-facing USB ports, a DVD-ROM drive and a supplied USB Wi-Fi/Bluetooth dongle handle daily peripherals, while DisplayPort and VGA outputs on the rear drive the included borderless monitor or a second screen.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 240-pin DDR4 UDIMM modules and what step is often missed?

Power off, open the SFF case, insert each DDR4 UDIMM into a DIMM slot until the retention clips click, then verify the total reaches 32 GB in BIOS.

Which component will need replacement first and what are the limits?

The 128 GB M.2 SSD and 1 TB SSD have finite write endurance; the 8 GB DDR4 can be expanded to 32 GB if more memory is required later.

What thermal limit appears first under sustained load on the i7-8700?

The 65 W processor will hit its 4.60 GHz turbo ceiling and then throttle to stay within its thermal design power.
