Ready-to-work desktop kit

This HP EliteDesk 800 G4 small-form-factor desktop arrives with a 24-inch IPS monitor, keyboard and mouse so it is ready to deploy. The 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8500 hexa-core processor runs at 3.0 GHz with a 4.1 GHz turbo and 65 W TDP. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB 2.5-inch SSD provide responsive everyday performance.

Cool and quiet operation

The 65 W processor and compact SFF chassis keep heat output modest for typical office workloads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics eliminates a discrete card, reducing both power draw and fan noise. A DVD-ROM drive is included for legacy media access without adding active cooling.

Upgrade from older SFF units

This configuration replaces ageing dual-core or early quad-core small-form-factor PCs that struggle with modern multitasking. The jump is worthwhile when moving from spinning-disk storage to the included 512 GB SSD and from 8 GB or less memory to 16 GB DDR4. It is not suited for buyers who need discrete graphics performance or more than two internal drive bays.

Questions about this item

How do I add more DDR4 memory to the 240-pin DIMM slots and what step is often missed?

Open the SFF case, align the notch on the DDR4 UDIMM with the 240-pin slot key, press firmly until the retention clips click, then enter BIOS to confirm the new total is recognised up to 32 GB.

Which component will need replacement first — the 512 GB SSD or the DVD-ROM drive?

The DVD-ROM drive has moving parts and a limited laser lifespan, so it typically fails before the solid-state drive which has no mechanical wear.

What thermal limit appears first when the i5-8500 runs at 4.1 GHz under sustained load in the SFF chassis?

The 65 W processor hits the small-form-factor cooler capacity, causing the CPU to throttle below 4.1 GHz to stay within its thermal envelope.
