Compact business desktop with six-core 8th Gen i5

The HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Small Form Factor packs an Intel Core i5-8500 six-core processor running at 3.00 GHz with 9 MB L3 cache, 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 2 TB SSD. Intel UHD Graphics 630 handles display output through two DisplayPort connectors. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed and the system is Windows 11 ready. No monitor, keyboard, mouse or speakers are included.

Upgrade from mechanical storage or dual-core systems

Replacing a hard-drive-only PC with this 2 TB SSD cuts boot and application load times dramatically. The six-core 8500 also delivers a clear step up from older dual-core or quad-core CPUs in multi-threaded office workloads. The jump is worth it when daily tasks involve several browser tabs, large spreadsheets or background antivirus scans that stall lesser processors. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance or more than 16 GB of RAM should look elsewhere.

Connectivity limited to USB 3.1 Gen 2

One USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port and four Type-A ports run at 10 Gb/s, while two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and four USB 2.0 Type-A ports provide 5 Gb/s and 480 Mb/s respectively. Wired networking tops out at 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet. There is no VGA output, no optical drive and no internal PCIe expansion mentioned, so legacy displays, disc media and add-in cards cannot be accommodated.

Questions about this item

Will the 800 G4 Small Form Factor chassis fit on a standard VESA mount bracket?

The EliteDesk 800 G4 uses the Small Form Factor chassis; VESA mounting is optional and requires the HP-specific bracket for this model, which is sold separately.

What is the correct order to seat the 16GB DDR4 memory modules during installation?

Power off and unplug the unit, remove the side panel, open the retention clips on the two DIMM slots, align the notch on each DDR4 module, press down firmly until both clips click shut, then replace the panel before powering on.

Which components inside the 800 G4 are designed to be replaced by the user over time?

The 2TB SSD and the 16GB DDR4 memory are user-replaceable; the CMOS battery on the motherboard can also be swapped when it no longer holds system settings.
