Adds two 10 GbE SFP+ ports over a PCIe 2.0 x8 slot with IPv6, TCP/IP offload, QoS, jumbo frames and IEEE 802.1/802.3 compliance
The HP NC550SFP is a dual-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet controller card built for servers and workstations that need wired 10 Gb/s connectivity. It installs in a PCI Express 2.0 x8 slot and presents two SFP+ ports for fibre or direct-attach copper links. The adapter suits administrators adding high-speed uplinks or storage traffic to rackmount or tower systems.
The card draws power solely from the PCIe 2.0 x8 interface without an auxiliary connector and uses a passive heatsink for cooling. In normal operation it runs silently because no fan is fitted and the thermal design relies on chassis airflow. Power consumption stays within the slot specification so no extra power-budget planning is required beyond the standard 2.0 x8 allocation.
Each port accepts standard SFP+ transceivers or DAC cables so you can choose fibre or copper reach per link. The adapter offloads TCP/IP, supports IPv6, QoS, jumbo frames and IEEE 802.3ad LACP teaming, leaving onboard 1 GbE ports free for management traffic. A compatible PCIe 2.0 x8 or wider slot and SFP+ modules are the only extra items needed to complete the link.

Power down the server, insert the card fully into an x8 or wider PCIe 2.0 slot, secure the bracket screw, then attach SFP+ modules and cables before powering on; the step often missed is forgetting to install the SFP+ transceivers, because the adapter ships without them.
The adapter itself has no moving parts, so the only items that may need replacement are the SFP+ transceivers or fibre/ copper cables if they fail or if you change link distances; keep the PCIe slot and card edge contacts free of dust.
The PCIe 2.0 x8 interface provides the ceiling; with two 10 GbE links the combined throughput can approach the bus maximum, so sustained wire-speed on both ports simultaneously is constrained by that x8 bandwidth.
