Target user

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a refurbished business laptop built for professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 machine with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1000 GB SSD. Its dual-core Intel Core i5-6300U processor at 2.4 GHz handles office applications and web workloads without excess bulk.

Thermals and power

The slim 18.9 mm chassis relies on integrated graphics and a low-power U-series CPU, so heat output and fan noise stay modest during typical productivity tasks. Battery life is sufficient for a full workday away from a desk, and the 64-bit Windows 10 installation runs efficiently on the solid-state drive.

Ports and daily use

Essential connectivity includes VGA, DisplayPort, RJ-45 Ethernet, USB-A, USB-C and a docking connector, covering legacy monitors and wired networks in one frame. The 14.0 inch non-touch display at 1366 x 768 resolution suits document work, while the absence of a webcam and optical drive keeps the profile clean for secure environments.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1000 GB SSD into the EliteBook 840 G3, and what step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the drive into the M.2 slot at a 30-degree angle, then secure it with the single retention screw; the step people miss is pressing the drive fully flat before tightening the screw, otherwise the connector stays unseated.

What maintenance or replacement will the EliteBook 840 G3 need later?

The internal battery is the only user-replaceable part that wears out; the 16 GB DDR4 memory is soldered and the 1000 GB SSD is rated for far more writes than typical workloads, so battery replacement is the expected service item.

What limit appears first during sustained use on the EliteBook 840 G3?

The dual-core i5-6300U hits its thermal ceiling under prolonged heavy loads, causing clock speeds to drop below the 2.4 GHz base frequency to keep the 18.9 mm chassis within safe temperatures.
