Built for competitive gaming

The HP OMEN 16 pairs an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. A 16-inch WQXGA panel runs at up to 240 Hz with a 3 ms response time. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR5 memory and a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD back the system for high-frame-rate play.

Connectivity that clears desk space

One USB Type-C port delivers 10 Gbps signalling, USB Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 for a single-cable dock. HDMI 2.1 drives an external monitor at high refresh rates. Three USB Type-A ports, an RJ-45 jack and a combo audio socket cover peripherals without a hub.

Cooling tuned for sustained loads

The 83 Wh, 6-cell battery supports long sessions away from mains power. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 keep wireless latency low. The chassis dissipates heat from the 16-core CPU and discrete GPU while the 500-nit, 100% sRGB display stays colour-accurate under load.

Questions about this item

Will the AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX throttle at its 5.3 GHz boost under sustained heavy load?

The 16-core processor can reach 5.3 GHz, but the OMEN 16 chassis and cooling system determine how long that speed holds during extended gaming or rendering sessions.

How loud do the fans get and how hot does the keyboard area feel after several hours of max GPU use?

Under continuous load the RTX 5070 and 83 Wh battery push significant heat through the rear vents; fan noise rises to an audible level and the deck above the keyboard becomes warm to the touch.

Does the laptop need any extra hardware to drive an external 240 Hz monitor at full refresh?

The HDMI 2.1 port and the USB-C 10Gbps port with DisplayPort 1.4 both support 2560 x 1600 at 240 Hz, so a compatible cable is the only addition required.
