HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop

The HP OMEN 16 is a portable gaming system built around an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with 16 cores and 32 threads. It targets players who want high frame rates on a 16 inch WQXGA panel. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU provides dedicated graphics power for modern titles. Windows 11 Home comes pre-installed.

Build integration and expansion

The chassis includes a full complement of ports: one USB Type-A 10Gbps, two USB Type-A 5Gbps, one USB Type-C 10Gbps with USB Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, RJ-45 and a combo audio jack. The 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD handles the operating system and a core game library. Memory can be expanded up to 64 GB DDR5 and storage up to 2 TB PCIe NVMe SSD.

Capacity and headroom

The 2560 x 1600 display runs at 60 to 240 Hz with a 3 ms response time, 500 nits brightness and 100 percent sRGB coverage, giving clear motion in competitive shooters. The 83 Wh 6 cell battery supports extended sessions away from mains power. The 8 GB GPU frame buffer and 16 GB system memory handle current games at high settings, while the 64 GB memory ceiling and 2 TB storage ceiling leave room for future workloads.

Questions about this item

What is the maximum turbo frequency of the Ryzen 9 8940HX before thermal limits engage?

The Ryzen 9 8940HX reaches up to 5.3 GHz boost clock; sustained loads will be managed by the OMEN cooling system and 83 Wh battery thermal design.

How loud are the fans and what is the power draw when the RTX 5070 runs at full load for hours?

The 6-cell 83 Wh battery and vapour-chamber cooling keep fan noise controlled while the 240 Hz display and RTX 5070 draw peak power through the 10Gbps USB-C PD 3.0 port.

Which external monitor cable and dock standard does the HDMI 2.1 port require for 2560 x 1600 at 240 Hz?
