HP OMEN 16 Riot Blue gaming laptop

This 16.0 inch HP OMEN 16 laptop in Riot Blue targets gamers who want a high-refresh 2K panel and modern mobile silicon. The AMD Ryzen 7 8745HX processor delivers 8 cores and 16 threads with a 5.1 GHz max boost clock. An NVIDIA RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8 GB GDDR7 dedicated memory handles graphics workloads. 16 GB DDR5-5200 memory and a 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD complete the core specification.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The 165 Hz IPS display runs at 3 ms response time with 400 nits brightness and 100% sRGB coverage for colour-accurate gaming. Connectivity includes Realtek Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless play. Ports cover 1 USB Type-A 10Gbps, 2 USB Type-A 5Gbps, 1 USB Type-C 10Gbps with USB Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, RJ-45 and a combo audio jack. Windows 11 Home ships pre-installed.

Deciding spec 8 GB GDDR7 on RTX 5060

The single figure that decides fit is the 8 GB GDDR7 frame buffer on the RTX 5060 Laptop GPU. Buyers who need more video memory for 4K textures or heavy VR workloads should look elsewhere. The 1 TB Gen4 NVMe SSD and 16 GB DDR5-5200 RAM are fixed at purchase, so storage or memory expandability is not a path to larger VRAM. Choose this unit if 8 GB GDDR7 matches your target resolution and texture settings.

Questions about this item

How do I add a second M.2 drive and which screw size catches people out?

The laptop has a single M.2 slot already occupied by the 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD, so a second drive cannot be added without removing the existing one. The retaining screw is M2×3 mm; using a longer screw damages the motherboard.

Which components will need replacement first and when?

The 16 GB DDR5-5200 module is soldered and cannot be upgraded. The 1 TB SSD is the only user-replaceable part; plan to swap it when capacity or write endurance becomes limiting.

What thermal limit appears first during long gaming sessions?

The Ryzen 7 8745HX boosts to 5.1 GHz but sustained loads hit the 45 W power ceiling, causing clock speeds to drop before the 165 Hz panel or RTX 5060 8 GB GDDR7 become bottlenecks.
