16-inch WQXGA 240 Hz Gaming Laptop

This HP OMEN 16 pairs an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, 32 GB DDR5 memory and a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD. The 16.0-inch IPS panel runs at 2560 x 1600 resolution with a 60-240 Hz variable refresh rate, 3 ms response time and 500 nits brightness covering 100% sRGB. Windows 11 Home is pre-installed.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

The 16-core, 32-thread CPU and 8 GB GPU suit creators and gamers who need high frame rates at WQXGA resolution. The 32 GB DDR5 and fast NVMe storage handle heavy multitasking and large project files. Buyers who require more than 512 GB of internal storage or prefer a touchscreen should consider other configurations.

Deciding specification — 240 Hz WQXGA display

The single figure that determines fit is the 240 Hz peak refresh rate on a 2560 x 1600 IPS panel. If your workflow or games benefit from that refresh headroom at this resolution, the laptop matches the requirement; if 60 Hz or 1080p is sufficient, a lower-spec model will cost less.

Questions about this item

Will the 512 GB SSD be enough for a modern game library, or should I plan to add a second drive?

The laptop ships with a 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD and supports up to 2 TB, so you can install a larger drive later if your library grows beyond the factory capacity.

Can I connect an external 240 Hz monitor without losing the high refresh rate?

Yes, the HDMI 2.1 port and the USB-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 both carry enough bandwidth for a 2560 x 1600 signal at 240 Hz.

Does the 32 GB of DDR5 memory leave any slots free for a future upgrade?

The system supports up to 64 GB of DDR5, so at least one SO-DIMM slot remains available if you want to add more memory later.
