The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 is a 1U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors, each with eight cores at 2.4 GHz. This server suits environments that need high core density in a single rack unit, such as virtualisation hosts or cloud nodes. The eight 2.5-inch drive bays and H240 controller handle SAS and SATA drives, but the 32 GB memory ceiling and lack of installed drives mean it will not satisfy workloads that require large local datasets or more than 32 GB of RAM without a processor upgrade.

32 GB DDR4 maximum with current processors

The installed Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors limit total memory capacity to 32 GB across the 16 slots, even though the platform supports up to 1 TB with other CPUs. If the application demands more memory, different processors must be sourced. The H240 controller provides 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA connectivity for the eight drive bays.
