ProLiant DL360 Gen9 1U server

This 1U rack server fits dense data-centre rows and delivers compute for virtualisation, databases or high-performance applications. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor running at 3.4 GHz and 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. Redundant hot-swap 500 W power supplies keep the platform running during a module failure.

Upgrade path from single-socket

Moving from a four-core or dual-socket v2 platform adds six physical cores and twelve threads at a higher base frequency. The jump is worthwhile when workloads need more parallel threads per socket and can use the 2400 MT/s memory bandwidth. A second Xeon v3 processor can be added later to reach 36 total cores across two sockets.

128 GB DDR4 and 2 x 500 GB SATA drives

The installed 128 GB matches the single-processor memory ceiling, leaving no headroom for expansion unless a second CPU is fitted. Two 2.5-inch 7.2K SATA drives on the B140i controller provide RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 for the OS and light application data. Heavier storage I/O demands more drive bays or a hardware RAID card with SAS support.

Questions about this item

Does this 1U server require a specific rack depth or mounting kit?

The chassis is a 1U rack design with eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays and includes two hot-swap 500W redundant power supplies for standard rack mounting.

What is the correct order for installing the second processor and its 12 DIMM slots?

Install the second Xeon processor first, then populate its 12 dedicated DDR4 slots; the system has 24 total slots split evenly per processor.

When should the 7.2K RPM 500GB SATA drives be replaced in a RAID 5 array?

Replace a drive immediately upon SMART failure or predictive alerts; the B140i controller supports RAID 5 rebuild on hot-swap 2.5-inch SATA drives.
