Dense 1U rack server for virtualised workloads

The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 twelve-core processor at 2.3 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Eight SFF drive bays and the Smart HBA H240ar controller provide SAS RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies give redundancy in a 1U form factor.

Sustained load behaviour with twelve cores

The twelve-core Xeon runs at 2.3 GHz base frequency across all cores, so multi-threaded throughput remains steady during extended compute jobs. DDR4 memory operates up to 2400 MT/s depending on processor capability, and the 7.2 K SAS drives deliver consistent sequential bandwidth. Redundant power and hot-swap bays let the chassis stay online while components are serviced.

Installation notes and common pitfalls

The server ships with two 1 TB SAS drives installed in the front bays; additional drives use the same trays. Twenty-four DIMM slots are arranged twelve per processor, so populating the second CPU unlocks the remaining slots. No operating system is included, and the Matrox G200 graphics provides only basic video output. Buyers who need more than eight drive bays or a second processor from day one must add those parts separately.

Questions about this item

How much power do the dual 500W redundant supplies draw when this DL360 Gen9 runs all day?

The server includes two 500W hot-swap power supplies in a redundant configuration; actual draw varies with workload but the units share the load to maintain uptime.

What caddies or rails must I already have to install the 2.5" SAS drives in the 8-bay front cage?

The 2 x 1TB 7.2K SAS drives ship with their 2.5" trays included; the 8 SFF bays accept standard HP Gen9 drive carriers, so no extra caddies are needed for these drives.

Will the H240ar RAID controller recognise older 6Gbps SATA disks I want to keep using?

Yes, the Smart HBA H240ar supports 6Gbps SATA alongside 12Gbps SAS, so legacy SATA drives can be added to the same array or used as separate volumes.
