A 2U rack server with dual eight-core Xeon processors at 2.4GHz, 16GB DDR4, two 146GB 15K SAS drives and redundant 500W power supplies
This HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 2U rack server is a new system built for data-centre workloads that demand dual-socket compute density. Two Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors at 2.4 GHz provide 16 physical cores and 32 threads. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory populate 24 DIMM slots, 12 per processor, ready for expansion. Redundant 500 W hot-swap power supplies support continuous operation.
Buyers who require more than 16 GB of memory from the factory or who need NVMe boot drives without adding a riser should look elsewhere. The installed Matrox G200eH2 GPU is for console output only, so graphics-intensive tasks are not supported. Workloads that depend on larger drive bays than 2.5 inch SAS will need a different chassis.
The H240ar provides 12 Gb SAS and 6 Gb SATA connectivity with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 across the eight SFF bays. Two 146 GB 15 K SAS drives are installed, leaving six bays free for capacity or performance growth. This controller choice determines which drive types and RAID levels are available without an additional card.

Other versions of this model
Each supply is rated at 500 W and the pair operates in redundant mode, so the server can keep running on a single unit if one fails.
The system ships with 16 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots; additional DDR4 ECC registered modules up to 64 GB each are required to expand toward the 3 TB limit.
The Smart HBA H240ar supports 12 Gbps SAS and 6 Gbps SATA, so it can address 6 Gbps SAS drives in the same array or in separate logical volumes.
