Ready-to-deploy 2U rack server

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 arrives with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 twelve-core processor at 2.3 GHz, 8 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and two 1 TB 7.2K SAS drives on an H240ar controller supporting RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60. It targets IT teams that need a compact, redundant platform for virtualization, database or file workloads without waiting for a custom build.

Verify rack depth, power and memory plans

The chassis occupies 2U and requires a rack deep enough for its length; confirm your PDUs can feed two 500 W hot-swap supplies on the appropriate connectors. Only one CPU is installed but the board accepts a second E5-2600 v3 or v4 processor, and the 24 DIMM slots support up to 3 TB total when fully populated with compatible DDR4 modules up to 2400 MT/s.

Eight-bay front access with room to grow

Eight 2.5-inch SFF bays sit behind a lockable bezel; two are filled with the supplied SAS drives and trays, leaving six open for expansion or for optional NVMe, universal media or additional eight-bay kits in bays two and three. Redundant power supplies and fans are hot-swappable from the rear, while the Matrox G200eH2 graphics chip provides basic KVM-over-IP console access without a dedicated GPU.

Questions about this item

Does the HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 ship with rails, cables or an operating system, or must I buy them separately?

The server includes two 500W redundant power supplies, two 1TB SAS drives with trays and the Smart HBA H240ar controller. Rails, additional cables and an operating system are not included.

Should I choose the single E5-2670 v3 configuration or add a second processor for my workload?

The installed twelve-core 2.3GHz E5-2670 v3 handles mainstream virtualization and database tasks. A second matching CPU can be added later to reach the 24-core maximum supported by the C610 chipset.

What does the 2.3GHz twelve-core CPU deliver once the server is running live workloads?

The E5-2670 v3 provides twelve physical cores at 2.3GHz with hyper-threading, giving 24 logical threads for parallel workloads such as virtualization hosts or database engines.
