Dense 1U rack server

The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 is a 1U rack server built for space-constrained data centres. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors running at 2.6 GHz, providing 16 physical cores and 32 threads. The system includes 32 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. Two 1 TB 7.2K SAS drives and an H240ar controller handle storage duties.

Dual 500 W redundant power

Two hot-swap 500 W power supplies deliver redundancy and maintain uptime during a unit failure. The 1U chassis uses managed airflow to cool both CPUs and the four large-form-factor drive bays under typical workloads. Fan speeds adjust automatically based on internal temperature sensors. Power draw scales with processor utilisation and drive activity.

H240ar RAID flexibility

The Smart HBA H240ar controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across SAS and SATA devices. It provides 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA connectivity without needing a separate RAID licence. The embedded Matrox G200 graphics chip supplies basic video output for installation and management consoles. No operating system is included.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 24 DDR4 DIMM slots and what step is often missed?

Populate the 12 slots per processor evenly across all channels; the step often missed is matching identical capacity and speed modules in each channel pair.

What maintenance will the 2× 500 W redundant power supplies need later?

They are hot-swap units; replace a failed module by sliding it out and inserting a new one without powering down the server.

What limit appears first on the H240ar controller under sustained write workloads?

The 6 Gbps SAS link to the 7.2K drives saturates before the 12 Gbps controller or RAID engine becomes a bottleneck.
