A 2U rack server with a twelve-core Xeon at 2.3 GHz, 8 GB DDR4, B140i SATA RAID and eight 2.5-inch drive bays
Installed Memory Size 8GB
HDD None
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads that need up to 36 total cores. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 twelve-core processor running at 2.3 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays and supports a second processor for doubled core counts. Buyers who need NVMe boot drives or fibre-channel connectivity will need a different platform.
Two 500 W redundant hot-swap power supplies deliver N+1 resilience so a single unit failure does not interrupt operation. The Intel C610 chipset and B140i software RAID controller handle SATA RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 without a dedicated hardware card. The integrated Matrox G200eH2 graphics core with 16 MB video memory provides basic console output only. Operators who require hardware RAID acceleration or GPU compute should plan for add-in cards.
Twenty-four DDR4 DIMM slots accept 4 GB to 64 GB modules up to 2400 MT/s, enabling up to 3 TB total memory when both processor sockets are populated. Two drive trays with screws are included for the eight SFF bays, while optional universal media bay, six NVMe drive cage or a second eight-bay SFF kit can be added to bays two and three. The server arrives without an operating system, so administrators must supply their own hypervisor or OS licence. Customers wanting pre-installed drives or a hardware RAID controller must look elsewhere.

Other versions of this model
Insert the second CPU into the empty socket on the system board; this activates the second set of 12 DIMM slots, giving 24 total slots for DDR4 registered ECC modules up to 2400 MT/s.
The B140i controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 on SATA drives only; monitor array health in the OS. Each 500W redundant supply is hot-swappable — replace a failed unit without shutting down.
With one E5-2670 v3 installed, the 12 physical cores (24 threads) and 8 GB of DDR4 memory become the bottleneck before the 8 SFF drive bays or dual 500W power supplies are saturated.
