2U rack server with twelve-core 2.3GHz Xeon, 16GB DDR4, eight SFF bays and H240ar RAID controller
The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 fits in 2U and ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2670v3 twelve-core processor at 2.3GHz plus 16GB of DDR4 ECC memory. The Smart HBA H240ar controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across eight 2.5-inch SFF bays. Redundant 500W hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running during a module failure.
With up to 24 DIMM slots the memory subsystem scales to 3TB when a second processor is added, feeding all 24 virtual threads without bottlenecks. The H240ar moves data at 12Gb/s SAS and 6Gb/s SATA, so sustained database or virtualisation streams stay consistent rather than spiking and throttling. Eight drive bays give room for parallel arrays that maintain IOPS during long batch windows.
Dual 500W supplies share the load, letting each unit run at lower utilisation where fan curves stay quiet. The 2U chassis directs front-to-rear airflow across the CPU heatsinks and memory risers, keeping inlet temperatures stable in standard cold-aisle layouts. Hot-swap fans and power modules can be replaced without shutting down, so acoustic profile and thermal headroom remain predictable during maintenance.

Other versions of this model
Each supply is rated at 500W; actual draw depends on the installed components and workload.
The server includes 8 drive trays with screws; no additional caddies are needed for 2.5" SAS or SATA drives.
The H240ar supports 12Gb SAS and 6Gb SATA RAID; NVMe drives require a separate NVMe backplane and are not managed by this controller.
