Refillable ink-tank all-in-one

The HP Smart Tank Plus 651 is a cartridge-free wireless printer that ships with up to three years of ink in the box. It targets households and small-business users who want low running costs and minimal supply management. Print, copy, scan and colour fax functions are built into a single desktop unit. The 800 MHz processor handles everyday document workflows without added complexity.

Bundled ink bottles and mobile software

Included are a 135 ml black bottle plus 70 ml cyan, magenta and yellow bottles, removing the need for immediate replenishment. The HP Smart app enables driverless setup and mobile printing from phones or tablets, cutting configuration time compared with rival tank models. Windows 7 through 11 and macOS 10.11 through 14 are supported out of the box.

Print-speed and resolution ceiling

Black and colour output tops out at 11 pages per minute with a 14-second first-page time. Maximum print resolution reaches 4800 x 1200 dpi for colour and 1200 x 1200 dpi for black, while copies are limited to 600 dpi. The flatbed scanner accepts originals up to 8.5 x 11.69 inches and uses a CIS sensor, so thick books or oversize media cannot be captured.

Questions about this item

How often will the HP 32XL and HP 31 ink bottles need replacing?

The box includes a 135-ml HP 32XL black bottle plus 70-ml HP 31 cyan, magenta and yellow bottles; HP states this supply lasts up to 3 years for typical home use.

What limits continuous printing at the rated 11 ppm speed?

The 800 MHz processor and 14-second first-page time set the pace; sustained runs stay at 11 ppm until the ink tanks require refilling.

How much noise and heat does the 10.27 lb unit produce during all-day operation?

HP does not publish acoustic or thermal figures; the 800 MHz processor and inkjet mechanism run quietly enough for home offices.
