HP Z2 G4 Workstation Overview

The HP Z2 G4 Tower is a workstation-class desktop built around a 3.2 GHz Intel Core i7-8700 processor with six cores. It ships with 32 GB of memory and a 1 TB solid-state drive, running Windows 11 Pro out of the box. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 drives dual DisplayPort outputs for multi-monitor setups. A USB Wi-Fi adapter provides wireless connectivity.

Suitability and Limits

This system suits office professionals, developers and students who need reliable multi-core performance and ample memory for virtual machines or large spreadsheets. Buyers who want more storage than the single 1 TB SSD provides should look elsewhere. The integrated graphics cannot handle modern gaming or GPU-accelerated 3D rendering workloads. Only two memory slots are available, limiting future expansion to the 64 GB maximum.

Deciding Specification

The 32 GB memory configuration across two slots is the specification that decides fit. It delivers strong multitasking headroom today while leaving two slots open to reach the 64 GB ceiling if workloads grow. If your applications already demand more than 64 GB, this platform will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

What display cables do I need to connect monitors to the dual DisplayPorts on this Z2 G4?

You need cables with DisplayPort plugs on both ends; the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 drives two monitors simultaneously through those ports.

Can I keep my older PCIe graphics card and use it alongside the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630?

The system uses integrated video only; installing a discrete card would disable the onboard graphics rather than run both together.

How can I verify the 32 GB of RAM and the Core i7-8700 are recognised after first boot?

Open Task Manager → Performance tab; it will show 32 GB memory and a 6-core Intel Core i7-8700 running at 3.2 GHz.
