HP Z8 G4 Xeon Platinum 8180 28C 512GB RAM 2TB SSD

The HP Z8 G4 tower workstation pairs an Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 processor with 28 cores and 56 threads running at 2.5GHz with 512GB of DDR4 ECC memory. A Nvidia RTX A5000 graphics card with 24GB memory and two 1TB PCIe SSDs on an M.2 adapter complete the configuration. This system targets professionals running large-scale simulations, rendering or data-analysis workloads that demand high core counts and massive memory capacity.

Upgrading from lower-core Xeon or consumer platforms

Moving to this 28-core 56-thread Xeon Platinum 8180 from a processor with fewer cores or without ECC memory support is worthwhile when workloads scale across many threads and require error-correcting memory for stability. The 512GB DDR4 ECC capacity removes the memory ceiling found on mainstream platforms, while the RTX A5000 24GB GPU adds professional graphics acceleration. The jump makes sense for users whose current workstation stalls on memory capacity or thread count rather than single-thread speed.

512GB DDR4 ECC memory and 2TB PCIe SSD headroom

The 512GB DDR4 ECC memory comfortably holds large in-memory datasets, complex scene files and multiple virtual machines simultaneously. Dual 1TB PCIe SSDs provide 2TB of fast storage for active project files and scratch space. The RTX A5000 24GB frame buffer handles high-resolution textures and large GPU compute buffers. Workloads exceeding 512GB system memory or requiring more than 24GB GPU memory will need a different platform.
