Dual Xeon Gold 5122 workstation

The HP Z8 G4 is a rackmount workstation fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 5122 processors running at 3.60GHz, each with 4 cores. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 memory and a maximum capacity of 1536GB. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed for immediate professional use.

Quadro P5000 graphics and mixed storage

The NVIDIA Quadro P5000 provides 16GB of GDDR5X video memory to accelerate CAD, rendering and multi-display workflows. A 1TB SSD handles operating system and active project loads while a 4TB hard drive adds bulk capacity for archives and data sets. Four 3.5-inch expansion bays remain available for further storage growth.

DDR4 memory ceiling and rackmount form

Memory upgrades are limited to DDR4 modules up to the 1536GB system maximum; other DDR generations are physically incompatible. The rackmount chassis weighs 60 units and uses front-panel LEDs for power, Ethernet and USB status rather than a desktop-oriented layout. Buyers needing a tower form factor or memory beyond the stated ceiling should consider a different platform.

Questions about this item

When will the 256GB DDR4 memory need to be expanded and what is the maximum capacity?

The workstation supports up to 1536GB of DDR4 memory, so the installed 256GB can be increased later when projects require more capacity.

Which component reaches its limit first during sustained all‑core workloads on the 2x Xeon Gold 5122 3.60GHz processors?

The two 4‑core Xeon Gold 5122 CPUs will hit their thermal and power ceiling before the 16GB GDDR5X Quadro P5000 or the storage subsystem becomes the bottleneck.

How much noise, heat and power draw should I expect when the Quadro P5000 and both CPUs run continuously all day?

The Quadro P5000 is a 16GB GDDR5X professional GPU and the dual Xeon Gold 5122 CPUs each have four cores at 3.60GHz, so sustained loads will generate noticeable heat and fan noise while drawing substantial power from the supply.
