HP Z840 28-Core Xeon Workstation

This HP Z840 tower workstation arrives new with dual Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors delivering 28 cores at 2.40 GHz and 256 GB of DDR4 memory. It is built for professionals who need a high-core-count platform for rendering, simulation, CAD and other compute-heavy workflows.

Suits CPU-heavy pipelines.

Engineers, animators and data scientists who scale across many threads will benefit from the 28-core configuration and large memory pool. Buyers who need discrete graphics acceleration, pre-installed storage or an operating system should look elsewhere because the chassis ships without a GPU, drives or OS.

28 cores at 2.40 GHz on LGA 2011

The decisive specification is the dual 14-core Xeon E5-2680 v4 arrangement giving 28 total cores at 2.40 GHz in LGA 2011 sockets. This core count and clock speed determine whether the system meets the parallel throughput your professional applications require.

Questions about this item

Does the workstation ship with any drives, graphics card or operating system, or must I supply them myself?

The unit arrives without any hard drive, SSD, graphics card or operating system, so you will need to add storage, a GPU and an OS of your choice.

With 256 GB of DDR4 already installed, should I plan to add more memory or is the board full?

The system holds 256 GB of DDR4 across the available slots; whether additional modules can be fitted depends on the exact DIMM population, which is not detailed in the listing.

How will the dual 14-core Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors at 2.40 GHz perform in multi-threaded rendering or simulation workloads?

Twenty-eight cores at 2.40 GHz give strong parallel throughput for CPU-based rendering, engineering simulation and other heavily threaded professional applications.
