Dual-band wireless access point delivering 54 Mbit/s throughput on 2.40 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies
The HPE Instant 205 is a dual-radio wireless access point built for small offices and branch locations. It operates on both 2.40 GHz and 5 GHz bands using the IEEE 802.11ac standard. This unit suits environments that need basic wireless coverage without a dedicated controller. It is not suited for high-density venues or sites requiring multi-gigabit throughput.
The radio delivers a maximum wireless data rate of 54 Mbit/s across the supported bands. This capacity handles light browsing, email, and IoT device connectivity comfortably. Performance runs out quickly with simultaneous video streams, large file transfers, or many concurrent users. The dual-radio design helps separate client traffic but does not increase the per-radio ceiling.
Replacing older single-band 802.11n access points with the Instant 205 adds 5 GHz operation and AC-standard efficiency. The jump is worth it when existing hardware cannot serve modern phones and laptops on the 5 GHz band. It does not replace deployments that need higher data rates, PoE+ power budgets, or advanced roaming features. Buyers needing greater throughput should consider higher-specification models.

Yes, the 802.11ac standard is backwards compatible so the 205Product will link to older 802.11n devices on the 2.40 GHz frequency.
Check the Instant management dashboard or client connection details; they report the active PHY rate which should show up to 54 Mbit/s for this model.
The box contains the access point and mounting hardware; a PoE injector or compatible switch is not included and must be purchased separately.
