HP ProLiant BL685c G7 compatible drive

This 2.5 inch SAS hard drive delivers 450 GB of storage at 10000 rpm. It is built for internal server use and connects via a 6Gb/s SAS interface. The drive is designed specifically for the HP ProLiant BL685c G7 Server Series. New condition ensures reliable deployment in supported systems.

For HP ProLiant BL685c G7 server maintenance

This drive suits administrators replacing a failed drive or expanding capacity in the named ProLiant series. It is not for laptop or desktop computers lacking a SAS controller. Buyers needing a different interface or a drive for non-server hardware should look elsewhere.

6Gb/s SAS interface decides compatibility

The drive uses a 6Gb/s SAS connection which must be present on the host system. Without a matching SAS backplane or controller the drive will not function. Verify the server supports 2.5 inch 10000 rpm SAS drives before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does this drive need a server backplane with a 6Gb/s SAS connector to operate?

Yes, the drive uses a 6Gb/s SAS interface and requires a compatible SAS backplane or controller in the host server.

Can the 2.5-inch SAS drive share a ProLiant BL685c G7 backplane with older 3Gb/s SAS drives?

The drive runs at 6Gb/s SAS; the backplane will negotiate the lowest common speed, so older 3Gb/s drives will work but at their native rate.

How do I verify the 10000 rpm spindle is active after installation?

The server BIOS or RAID controller will report the drive model, 450 GB capacity and 10000 rpm speed during POST or in the management interface.
