Product Identity

The HPE 5120-24G-PoE+ EI is a Layer 3 switch with 20 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports and 4 SFP expansion slots. It provides PoE+ on the copper ports and supports a redundant power supply in a 1U rack-mountable chassis.

Who This Suits

This switch suits network managers who need Layer 3 routing, PoE+ for access points or phones, and SFP uplinks in a single rack unit. It is not for buyers who need more than 20 powered copper ports or who require 10 Gigabit uplinks.

Setup Checks

Verify that your rack has 1U space and can accommodate the 15.43 lb weight. Confirm that your SFP transceivers match the shared SFP slot design and that your power infrastructure can support redundant supply operation if required.

Questions about this item

Does the 5120-24G-PoE+ EI require SFP transceivers for the 4 shared SFP slots to connect fibre uplinks?

Yes, the four shared SFP slots accept standard SFP transceivers for fibre or copper uplinks; they are not populated from the factory.

Can the 20 onboard 10/100/1000Base-T ports negotiate down to 10 Mbps for legacy devices?

The RJ-45 ports support 10/100/1000Base-T and will auto-negotiate to 10 Mbps half or full duplex for older endpoints.

How do I verify the switch is forwarding at Layer 3 after initial configuration?

Confirm an IP address is assigned to a VLAN interface, enable IP routing, then ping across subnets; successful replies prove Layer 3 forwarding is active.
