HPE Refurbished
An eight-core Xeon processor upgrade running at 2.60 GHz with 20 MB L3 cache for compatible servers
This HPE 715218-B21 is a refurbished Intel Xeon E5-2650 v2 octa-core processor upgrade designed for compatible HPE servers. It delivers eight cores at a base clock of 2.60 GHz with a 20 MB L3 cache. The part targets IT teams refreshing existing E5-2600 v2 platforms to extend service life.
The processor replaces an existing CPU in a Socket R motherboard within the E5-2600 v2 product family. The jump is worth it when a current quad-core or lower-frequency v2 chip limits virtualisation density or compute throughput. It does not support platforms outside the v2 series or newer socket generations.
Installation follows standard Socket R procedures using the server's existing retention mechanism and heatsink. Thermal paste must be reapplied cleanly. Common issues include bent socket pins during removal and firmware that does not recognise the 22 nm v2 stepping without a BIOS update.
Measured against everything we stock in Switch Modules, Transceivers & Add-Ons, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

The processor uses Socket R, so the server board must provide that exact socket for the upgrade to seat correctly.
Builders often skip the BIOS update required for the E5-2600 v2 series; without it the system will not recognise the 8-core 2.60 GHz chip.
Replace the paste whenever the heatsink is removed or if temperatures climb above normal under sustained load on the 22 nm die.
