HPE 800 GB SAS enterprise SSD

This 800 GB solid-state drive uses a 12 Gbps SAS interface and a 2.5 inch form factor. It is built with SLC NAND for mixed-use workloads in HPE Gen8 and Gen9 servers. The drive targets IT teams that need consistent low-latency performance for databases or virtualisation.

No bundled accessories or software

The product ships as a bare drive without mounting hardware, cables or management utilities. Buyers who need a carrier, a hot-plug tray or firmware tools must source them separately. Administrators planning a fresh array should verify that their controller and backplane already support 12 Gbps SAS.

Questions about this item

How often will the SLC NAND in this 800 GB SAS SSD need replacement under typical enterprise workloads?

SLC NAND is rated for far higher program-erase cycles than MLC or TLC, so the drive itself will usually reach its useful service life before the flash requires replacement.

What is the first performance limit reached during sustained write workloads on this 12 Gb/s SAS drive?

The 12 Gb/s SAS interface caps maximum sustained throughput, so the link speed becomes the bottleneck before the SLC flash or controller saturate.
