HPE 800W Flex Slot Platinum power supply

The HPE 865438-B21 is an 800W Flex Slot Platinum hot-plug server power supply designed for HPE server chassis that accept the Flex Slot form factor. It targets system administrators and integrators who need efficient, redundant power in density-optimised racks. The unit carries a low-halogen designation for environments with stricter material requirements. It is supplied as a new kit ready for deployment.

Hot-plug kit enables live replacement

The hot-plug capability allows the module to be inserted or removed while the server remains powered, provided a second supply is installed and the chassis supports redundancy. The low-halogen construction reduces halogenated flame retardants in the housing and cabling. The kit format includes the supply module and any retention hardware required for the Flex Slot bay. No additional software or cables are described in the specifications.

Slide-in installation with latch retention

Installation consists of sliding the unit into the Flex Slot bay until the integrated latch engages, a process that requires no tools. The hot-plug design means the server does not need to be shut down if redundant power is already active. Common issues arise when the bay is not fully seated or when the latch does not click, which can leave the module without power or cause intermittent contact. Verify the chassis supports 800W Flex Slot Platinum units before fitting.

Questions about this item

Does the 865438-B21 power supply require any periodic maintenance or component replacement?

The hot-plug design allows replacement without shutting down the server, but no scheduled maintenance or user-serviceable parts are identified for this unit.

What limit appears first when the 800W supply runs continuously at full load?

The 800W rated output is the primary limit; sustained loads above this level will trigger protection circuits.

How much heat and noise does the 3.3 kg unit produce during all-day operation?

Platinum-rated efficiency reduces waste heat, and the server-managed fan adjusts speed to match thermal demand.
